The Challenge Of the Week, or COW, is a personal and fun project I am implementing this year to promote healthy Social and Emotional Learning (known as SEL). It is my personal mission to not just teach content, but to also promote a positive climate for our classroom and our community. Students will be asked to participate in weekly challenges that give them opportunities for self-reflection (understanding and managing their own emotions and values), collaboration (understanding and empathizing with others), relationship-building (maintaining and supporting healthy relationships with others) and responsible decision-making. Research supports that healthy social and emotional learning of students is positively tied to feelings of gratitude and joy. Gratitude and joy are influential links to a person's learning and growth, no matter what age.
Every week a participating student will be entered into a drawing to be recognized and receive a small token of appreciation for his/her effort.
